Jan 16 - Adelaide/Mount Gambier
Today we head to Mount Gambier but not before stoping in Hahndorf to check it out. Remember those game meat sausages from yesterday? Well, after very little convincing, we decided to go back and get some sausages to cook on a bar-b in Hahndorf. Hahndorf is supposedly a little German town. It's really just one street but still cool to check out at least once. We finally found a public BBQ surface and its lunch time! |
I think it's (from L to R) buffalo, camel, emu, kangaroo and crocodile meat. The white one is definitely crocodile meat. |

Did a bit of shopping. Remember those perfume snuff bottles? I thought they were quite a common Australian souvenir thing so I didn't get it in Cairns and now I've not been able to find them. Even in Hahndorf which is a tourist stop. *sigh* Lesson learned: If you see something you want, just get it right there and then. Don't wait!
We arrived at Mount Gambier and checked into our motel. We then headed into town for some light show but it was cancelled. So we drove to the Umpherston Sinkhole to see the place at night. Supposedly, you can see quite a bit of possums scuttering about once the sun goes down. And yes, we did see some. I didn't have a tripod with me so I couldn't get a good night shot of the place but suffice to say, it was quite pretty with the strategically placed lights. |

I was told there were more of these guys that would come out - maybe it wasn't dark enough yet |
